Six Middle Grade Books to Read in the Fall

I have a slew of books I have read in the Fall that made the season all the more special! Want some recommendations? Good cause there are some coming at ya!

The first book up is “Wildwood.” Set in Washington state during the fall near the impassable woods, one day Prue’s brother is abducted by a murder of crows and flown off into the impassable woods, where people disappear and come up disoriented and crazy. Now Prue must go and save her brother, but she doesn’t do it alone. Add in some magic, talking animals and one grand adventure and you have “Wildwood.”

I feel like fairytales are reserved for the fall and winter. Magical things happen where there is so much beauty to behold. This story is the definition of beauty and wonder. Laced with pretty language, illustrations and the beauty of a fairytale, this book was meant for the colder months and all the dream works that entails those seasons.

“Winterbourne Home” has all the features of a good story I love. Enter a missing mother connected to mystery, an orphanage that is in a mansion, trinkets that hold purpose and a missing person that is not so missing. Danger and adventures lurk around every corner in this story.

I recommend reading the first book to this next series, as well as the second. I am patiently waiting for the third to come out. If you like dark academia, but at a PG level then look no further than “The Mystery of Black Hollow Lane.” Set in an elite boarding school, with a Latin Club and secret society, along with a mystery to solve, this story will not disappoint.

“City of Ghosts” has all the spooky fall feels. After a near death accident, Cass can now see ghosts, one in fact is her best friend. It’s ironic because her parents have no idea, yet they are ghost hunters, and they now have a tv gig set in Edinburgh Scotland. Cass realizes that Scotland is widely active with ghosts, and some want to harm her.

“Guest” is my final suggestion for today. Everyone knows that you must protect your children from the Kinde folk, you never compliment the babe, and never talk nicely of them, to ward off the evil about them. Mollie knows this and yet one day does compliment her brother Thomas, that’s all it takes before her baby brother is exchanged for a changeling. The Kinde folk steal human babies and swap them with one of their own. Guest is the name of the baby who has taken Thomas’ place. he is ugly and skinny and is constantly fussing. Now Mollies must go on a journey with “Guest,” to exchange him for her little brother. This is dark and magical. I absolutely loved it.

There are soo many good books to read in the fall, whimsical, mysterious, spooky and atmospheric. Fall books are my favorite books to read! How about you?
