Fall is already magical with the leaves changing colors and the temperatures cooling down…but getting outside isn’t the only way to romanticize the season. Autumn is a high volume movie season. The evenings are brisk and cool and its a great reason to snuggle up under a blanket, boil up some cocoa and start a favorite seasonal movie. We have a string of yearly movies we try to get to and when we do watch them, we make it extra special. Here are a ways you can plan an epic movie night.

Food….if you feed them, they will come. I have teenagers and one thing I know is that if you want them to bond with you, there better be food there. From pop tarts to pizza, to tacos or charcuterie board snacks….just know if you feed them…(junk food especially) they will come. The same rule applies with friends and husbands…and myself if I were to be completely honest. I like to jazz my snacks up with a charcuterie board design…because it looks pretty and is not arduous work. Easy go to snack foods are my style….but if you like complicated then go for it!

Interactive Movie Nights: Feel free to take a break half way through and play a game. When my girls were younger we had interactive movies with a family that knew how to host a get together. When we did our Harry Potter movie nights, we would stop for the trolley to buy some chocolate frogs when they boarded the train. We would learn potions during the potion making scene and play a quick game of quidditch in the backyard to get the blood pumping. Now that they are older I am planning some activities that are slightly quicker…like a round of Harry Potter trivia for a prize half way through the movie. Get creative, let there be laughter. Let them take the Bertie Botts challenge. Obviously this could involve any movie, I was just using Harry Potter as an example.

Pick a different place to watch the movie. Project it outside in the back yard, at a park or an interesting venue. We are lucky enough to use our neighbor’s barn every once in a while. It allows us to have more people over and get the full effect of the big screen.

Decorate like the Queen was coming. Instagram taught me to romanticize my life. One of the ways to do this is to decorate. It could be ninety degrees outside, but if I have leaves and pumpkins filling my living room, then I am in the fall spirit. The same goes with a movie. We watch movies as a form of fantasy and escapism. Everyone wants to imagine themselves in the dining hall at Hogwarts. Why not conjure up a lovely scene in your own home. I especially like to decorate extra for a movie night. It makes the experience all the more magical.

How do you make movie nights special? It’s never to late to amp up the season with a little extra! Happy Fall Movie Watching!!!
