Fall is my favorite time of year. It seems to come on suddenly and leave just as fast. I wish the leaves would prolong their brilliant colors and stay attached to the trees just a bit more than they do, but I’ll take what I can get. In the meantime I will chase the colors and make the most out of it. If you live on the east coast, here are three ways you can maximize the peak of fall.

I go north. I live in Pennsylvania, it’s a big state and I live in the north east part…but not the most northern. So I pack a picnic and head up north. Lake Tobyhanna peaked two weeks sooner than where I live. I went up twice in a week last year in order to get in a hike and take lots of pictures. Connecticut is also only a three hour drive from us, as well as parts of New York. If you gaga for fall foliage, traveling north and slowly down south over a three to four week period is the way to go!

Jim Thorpe is another place I love to visit in the fall. They have a train so you can see the gorgeous foliage through the mountains.

Visit New England. New England’s colors turn faster due to being more north and I am here for the beauty. This year we planned an epic trip in New England to see friends and all the leaves turning! It was such a wonderful experience. One of my favorite activity was witnessing the fall foliage via ski lift. I would like to make this a new tradition.

Planned hikes, walks and drives. When the peak week hits, I am devoted to the foliage. Any extra hours I have are devoted to hikes, walks, drives and picture taking. My favorite leaves are the maples. I have a sugar maple in my back yard and I love the view I get every fall….but if I can go somewhere where there are tons of maples, I am happy.

In the end, I love all the gorgeous leaves turning and if I can get a front row seat to it, I will do it! Romanticize the fall by chasing the leaves…chasing the color and enjoy the scenery!
